Animal Corral, Restoration

Opened in 1892 under the name of “Halkalı Agriculture and Baytar School”, today it operates as Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.

Structures reflecting the architecture of the period; made of masonry rubble stone. It is also known that it has seen many interventions over the years. The project author of the “animal corral” building, which is one of the buildings covered with Marseille tiles on the wooden roof and serves as a shelter for small cattle, was undertaken by Pilpaye Architecture founder and restoration expert architect Enes Aluç and the restoration application was completed.

Consisting of 2 different buildings and a courtyard, the building group consists of single-storey corral buildings and shepherd rooms on the upper floors.
After the restoration; the corral spaces were transformed into cafeteria dining halls, the shepherd’s lower floors into toilets and kitchens, and the shepherd’s rooms into private dining halls.
